I have been wanting to transform this old pear frame ever since I launched the Chalk Furniture Paint colour, Sage. I have always thought this would be the perfect hue to enhance this old painting and be a great way to use some of the Soft Black Wax to bring out that beautiful foliage carving detail.

Step 1
Clean the frame using methylated spirit to remove any dirt that has built up over time.
Step 2
Mask off the inside of the frame with painters tape to prevent paint getting on the original painting and to create a contrasting inner border.
Step 3
Give your paint a good stir and start to apply your paint. Be careful not to load your paintbrush with too much paint as you don’t want it to pool and collect in areas of the carved detail. The round brush is perfect for using a circular motion to work the paint into those difficult to reach areas. Allow the paint to dry and then apply a second coat.
Step 4
The paint has flattened out all the beautiful carved detail and I want to bring it back to life and make it more noticeable again. The Soft Black Wax is perfect to help highlight this lost detail.
Using a lint free cloth apply a small amount of wax to the frame and watch that carving come back to life! The dark colour also helps to bring out that vintage feel.
Once the wax has been applied wipe any excess off and then use your cloth to rub the surface and buff. Remove the painters tape. The wax will need 7 days to cure fully.
If you are feeling crafty and give this Pear Frame Makeover or any other tutorial a go please let me know how it turned out by sending me some pictures! I’d love to see and share them with the Blake & Taylor community.
