What You Will Need
What You Will Need
We recommend using either a specialist stencil brush or a dense foam roller. A foam roller will work better than a microfiber roller to prevent bleed-through. Secure your stencil—use a low-tack masking tape to secure your stencil in place around the edges. A spray adhesive can be used with stencils that have fine detail, but this could leave a sticky residue on your painted surface.

Stencil Instructions
You only need a small amount of paint and work in thin layers. Load your stencil brush or dense foam roller with paint and remove any excess on a piece of paper towel or fabric. This is crucial to prevent too much paint from being loaded, which can lead to bleeding of your design.
Technique: Stencil Brush
Use a 'stippling' or 'pouncing' effect, which means gently tapping the brush over the stencil. Hold the brush at 90° to the surface and, using an up/down motion, dab the paint over the stencil in the cut-out areas.
Technique: Dense Foam Roller
Paint with light pressure to start with, increasing pressure once you are more comfortable with the technique. Build up layers until you achieve the desired effect. Remember to roll off all the excess paint each and every time you re-apply paint.
Remove your stencil and seal the paint—there is no need to wait for the paint to dry before removing your stencil. Remove the stencil slowly and carefully. Pull away any masking tape slowly and at an angle to prevent your base coat from peeling. Once your stencil is dry, you may wish to give it a light sanding with a fine sandpaper. This will even out any raised areas where there is a buildup of paint. Do any touch-ups before sealing your design. You have the option to seal with either Blake & Taylor Wax or our Clear Top Coat
