French Blue Chalk Furniture Paint is a stylish reflection of the french provincial design colour palette. Not quite blue, not quite aqua, but oooh la la, this dynamic shade is a great versatile colour introduction within any home because of it’s neutralising powers on the eye. Easy to paint, washes up in water and goes with just about every colour under the rainbow.

Paint Surfaces & Application

Blake & Taylor Chalk Furniture Paint can be used over timber, laminate, metal, laminex, varnish, fabric, water and oil based paint, clay, wicker and tiles without the need for priming or heavy sanding. However, be aware that tannin rich timbers will firstly require a stain block to be applied to prevent leaching. See our FAQ page for more detail

Naturally, your item will need to be clean and free of all loose and flaking material, dirt and grease/oil. We recommend cleaning your surface with a sugar soap solution or methylated spirits, which will clean the surface of any dirt and grease. Surfaces should be sound and free of any mildew or rust. Wipe down surfaces to remove any cleaning product. A light scuff sand is recommended, especially if the surface is highly polished, glossy, or made of laminate or melamine. Scuff sanding means lightly sanding with 180–220 grade paper to create a key for the paint to adhere to. Remove all sanding dust.

Stir well, making sure there are no contents sitting on the bottom of the can. Apply 1, 2 or 3 coats of Chalk Furniture Paint (depending on your item and the look you want to achieve) with either a brush or roller. Touch dry within around 30 minutes. Re-coat in 1 to 2 hours depending on the weather. Finish by either waxing or applying Clear Top Coat. The paint will be fully cured after 7 days.

Neutral Wins Every Time

French Blue can have almost the same effect as white in a home. This is a great colour introduction if you have a busy nook in your house and need to ‘calm’ the space but don’t want to use white. Try it!

I've used many different chalk paints but the quality of Blake & Taylor Paint French Blue made my job so much easier. I'm currently doing an entire nursery of furniture for my new grandson with the French Blue and we are loving it.
